A combination of beauty in a chaotic form that raises questions in every viewer’s mind about why this carpet’s design is like this! This carpet is a combination of various patterns and designs that itself narrates another interesting aspect of Iranian carpet weaving art. Such carpets are called “Ornag” and this handwoven Ornag, sized seven quarters with 10978 knots and dimensions of 142 by 152 centimeters, is an artistic and antique piece crafted over a hundred years ago by talented Iranian weavers. Based on the intriguing history of this carpet, it’s worth mentioning that originally, this carpet wasn’t woven as a complete piece but in ancient times due to the absence of large-scale design papers, carpet patterns were woven on smaller carpets so that weavers could use them as a reference for pattern copying. This old Ornag is woven in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province, known from ancient times as one of the important centers of Iranian carpet weaving.
