Such carpets are called “Ornag” and this handwoven Ornag, sized seven quarters with 10978 knots and dimensions of 142 by 152 centimeters, is an artistic and antique piece crafted over a hundred years ago by talented Iranian weavers. Based on the intriguing history of this carpet, it’s worth mentioning that originally, this carpet wasn’t woven as a complete piece but in ancient times due to the absence of large-scale design papers, carpet patterns were woven on smaller carpets so that weavers could use them as a reference for pattern copying. This old Ornag is woven in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province, known from ancient times as one of the important centers of Iranian carpet weaving.
